The restaurant itself is beautifully done in wood and brick with cozy booths and nice lighting, and the help, from the hosts to the manager and our waiter were all nice, helpful, and interested in our satisfaction. Mountain House held a lottery event where customers can win several rewards, including dinning utensil set, blue and white porcelain cups, thermos bottle, and a voucher. All three dishes were delicious, but i should add that we spent the meal looking with interest (or was that envy?) at the dishes being served at other tables. In the end, we settled on the cabbage and pork dish that seemed to be on everybody's table, shrimp with hot peppers and nuts (we later realized this was likely their version on Kung Po shrimp), and potatoes sliced like spaghetti and served in a delicate sauce. Our waiter was extremely helpful, patiently explaining all the nuances of the food we were interested in. Lots of unusual meats, fish parts and sauces, with lots of spice, so not for the faint of heart or stomach. What a dinner! The menu is a far cry from the usual fare served in most Szechuan restaurants. a 20 minute wait, but we were seated within 5 minutes. It was 6pm on a Saturday evening, the place was already bustling with Asian families, and the hostess indicated. My wife and i decided to stop in Flushing on our way back to Westchester after a JFK dropoff, and somehow landed at Szechuan Mountain House.
